Kylan's Story
The way I found out about my brain tumor came up abruptly. I have always been a very active student, and athletic playing basketball, football and baseball. It happened one day during baseball practice at the beginning of the year 2015, my senior year of high school. I had a seizure as I was standing at the plate and that was just the beginning of a new journey.
Right away, my family and I went to the hospital to go get a CT scan; and then from a CT scan, an MRI when they discovered a brain mass. I was scheduled for a brain biopsy February 3rd and found out I had a brain tumor. I was then scheduled for a craniotomy a month later on March 10th, but during that time I found out I had an allergic reaction to my seizure medicine which would have built up to almost being Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. I had craniotomy to have the tumor removed and over the next few months was in recovery mode.
During the next few months, I was able to walk on my graduation day and was able to attend grad night at Disneyland. Over summer of 2015 however, I was having seizures 3 times a week so we knew something was wrong. My follow up MRI in November 2015 showed that not all of the tumor was removed and through those six months had spread severely throughout my brain (Malignant neoplasm of frontal lobe). I had radiation and chemotherapy through the entire month of January and into mid February of 2016 and everything has been going great so far. I’m still battling at this time and hope for the best to come.
